One of LongHaul's integrated antenna radios is located near the Fish Cam at the outdoor walkway over the fishladder.

The underwater Fish Cam at the Whitehorse Rapids Fishway in Canada uses the LongHaul 5x to transmit IP video of the Chinook salmon as they make their yearly run up the Yukon River.

People can tune in to the Yukon Energy website during the summer months, when the camera is activated, to watch the heroic journey of the salmon.

The Whitehorse Rapids Fishway is part of Yukon Energy's commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations, and Carlson Wireless is proud to be a part of that.

The Fish Cam is actually a series of cameras located at the base of the fishladder, which at 1,200 feet long with a 50-foot rise, is the longest wooden fishladder in the world.

Because the signal from the cameras must be transmitted across the beautiful Yukon River, wireless transmission is a must, noted Yukon Energy's Willy McKenna.

McKenna, the electrician who installed the LongHaul system, plugged the radios into networking switches that link the IP video camera to the video server, making the one-third mile wireless connection possible.

McKenna was particularly pleased with the ease of LongHaul's installation.

"It was very plug-and-play, very easy to put in. I just pointed the radios in the general direction and didn't have to adjust anything," he said.

The LongHaul transmits up to 108 Mb/s over the air (OTA) and is capable of reaching distances beyond 80 miles. The LongHaul can be powered by AC or DC and has a very low current draw for solar-powered applications.

The other integrated antenna radio is located across the river.
